2008 School’s Growing Competition

Following the great success and popularity of last year’s Carrot growing competition, we have decided to stay with the vegetable theme and this year’s competition is to grow a Dwarf French Bean Plant in a pot.

The competition is open to all local primary schools, but places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Judging day will be on Saturday 28th June at Byrkley Garden Centre which, as in previous years, will be a fun-filled day for all the family.  Final details have yet to be confirmed, but Ed James of Heart FM will be here to announce the lucky winners and we are planning a variety of entertainment for the whole family to join in.

There will be some fantastic prizes for the lucky winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and their schools, as well as a “Best in School” prize for each school and a brand new category for this year - “Best Teacher’s Entry”! There will also be a goody bag for each child that brings in their own entry on judging day.

We are very keen to support the national campaign encouraging healthy eating, and feel that this competition is an excellent way to help children learn about growing (and eating!) their own vegetables.

If you would like your school to take part in this FREE competition, please ask your teachers about it and make sure that they have sent in an Entry Form by the closing date of Friday 14th March.
