Kune Kune Piglets born in Santa's Grotto!
On Thursday 29th November our Kune Kune Pig, Daisy, gave birth to her first litter of piglets. The tiny babies, who were born in Santa’s Grotto on Rainbow Mountain at Byrkley Garden Centre, are all doing well and have an assortment of markings.
Kune Kune pigs arrived in Britain in 1992 from New Zealand. Their name is pronounced cooney cooney, and means ‘fat and round’ in Maori. Friendly, placid and quite comical, they are completely covered in hair which may be short and straight or long and curly, and true to their names they only have to look at food to put on weight!
Santa’s Grotto on Rainbow Mountain is open every day up to and including Christmas Eve, with a pre-booking system to avoid long queues.
Keeping Daisy and her babies company are two beautiful white reindeer, a pair of very cute alpacas, two Dairy Shorthorn calves, some Soay sheep, Primrose the Pygmy goat and her 2-month old daughter Lily and some Mini Rex rabbits.
